Optimised Water Use Plan

An optimised water use plan includes the optimisation of locations for power plants including energy efficiency and their optimal size (e.g., combined heat and power stations, power generation determined by the heat demand). Competing water uses of power generation (hydro, fossil and nuclear), agriculture and the domestic sector may be exacerbated by rising temperatures and changing precipitation patterns due to climate change. E.g., during the heatwave in 2003 in France the operation of nuclear power plants ran into severe difficulties due to a shortage of cooling water.
