Increasing Energy Efficiency

There are plenty of ways to increase the energy efficiency in order to enhance supply security while at the same time mitigate climate change.

On the one hand, the energy supply systems including power plants and infrastructures can be made more efficient. Examples include combined heat and power stations where power generation is determined by heat demand. The waste heat of power stations can be used for district heating or cooling. Higher energy efficiency in producing electricity can also be achieved by retrofitting (fuel switch, new technologies).

On the other hand, energy consumption in the production of goods and services and in households can be made more efficient. Examples include more efficient production chains or better thermal insulation of buildings.
